Technical University of Denmark, DTU, offers education, research, research based consultancy and innovation in a wide range of technical disciplines. The university's main activities are anchored in 19 departments, a national laboratory for renewable energy and other university units among them two centres with special relation to the Arctic: Center for Polar Activities (Polar DTU) and Arctic Technology Centre (ARTEK).

The university owns several experimental facilities, including a number of testing facilities for wind turbines, an ocean-going research vessel, as well as state-of-the-art infrastructure in areas such as cleanroom and nanoscopy.

The university has about 5,000 employees of which more than half are researchers, including 1,100 PhD students.

The University has contributed to the establishment of a number of alliances among leading technical universities including Nordic5Tech – a Nordic university collaboration.
