Arctic First Aid I – safety course

18.02.2020
Education

This is the first of an intensive two-part safety course enabling participants to provide relevant first aid in the event of illness and accidents during fieldwork in the Arctic, where resources (equipment, medical staff and evacuation possibilities) are limited and there is an increased risk of hypothermia, frostbite and other complications related to the cold climate. First aid equipment available to participants on GEUS' expeditions to Greenland, will be used throughout the course.

GEUS has an agreement with Radio Medical (the maritime Alarm Center) that field teams can use their services in the event of acute illness or accidents. Field teams must therefore be familiar with and follow Radio Medical's guidelines and PDF icon reporting form. Participants must read guidelines for reporting to Radio Medical prior to the course.
